Väike Hellero
Väike Hellero is the second generation of the folk song ensemble Hellero, and its members got their first singing experiences while rehearsing with their parents. The choir was established in 1994 to learn some Kadri- and Mardi- songs to perform at the Estonian National Museum. This is how it all began. We meet in Tartu and Elva but our singers live all throughout Estonia. Our most beloved Seto feasts are Värska’s St. George’s Day and the village party of Lepä village. Our main motivator for singing is the joy of each other’s company and the possibility to sing traditional songs together and with other singers. Old songs feel exciting and beautiful to us, as they have a very special musical language. Singing, dancing and playing make us happy, empowers us and unifies us. That special feeling of unity and shared joy is often rare in the contemporary world and we experience it by singing together. We meet once or twice a month. We don’t only sing Seto songs, we also sing Estonian, Vadja, Isuri, Livonian, Moksha, Udmurt, Besserman, Latvian, Lithuanian and Georgian songs. But Seto songs have a special place in our repertoire and we sing them at every gathering. The Seto songs we have obtained mostly from the Estonian Folklore Archives. We have also learned the popular repertoire from the Seto community and we try to keep Hellero songs alive, some of which we have learned directly from the Seto song mothers.

Väike Hellero om rahvalaulupargi Hellero tõnõ põlv. Vanõbidõga üteh lauluproovih saimi edimädse’ regilaulu laulmisõ kogõmusõ’, umaette naksimi laulma 1994. aastagal. Kokko saami Tartoh ni Elvah Peedul, a mi laluljit om lajah ka muial Eestih. Setomaal olõmi käünü päämädselt Verskah juripäävä kirmassõl ja Lepä kirmassõl. Mi pia tähtsäst hüäd ütehlaulmisõ kampa, umavaihõl ni tõsi laulusõpruga laulmist. Vana’ laulu’ omma’ mi jaos väiga illosa’ ja huvitava’, eismuudu muusigakeelega. Laulmine, tands ja mängmine andva’ rõõmulidsõ olõki ja joudu ni köütvä’ inemiisi ütte. Ütidsõst kuuholõmisõ tundõst, midä laulmine and, om śoo ilma aigu õkvalt puudus. Mi laula-i õnnõ seto laula, a ka eesti, vadja, isuri, liivi, mokša, udmurdi, bessermani, läti, leedu ja gruusia laula. A õgal kokkosaamisõl võetas ka seto laulõ ülest. Seto laulõ olõmi saanu päämiselt rahvaluulõarhiivist, a olõmi opnu ka noid laulõ, mitä lauldas Setomaal śoo ilma aigu.
